Yarraman partial harvest closure

A small section of plantation Araucaria trees in Yarraman State Forest that have taken over half a century to cultivate are scheduled to be harvested and transformed into the stunning wood products for which they were originally planted.

Locally grown plantation Araucaria (also known as hoop pine) is highly sought after for appearance grade applications including beautiful display plywoods and veneers used in modern architecture, feature walls and ceilings, and sawn timber for heritage joinery and distinctive furniture.

We will be harvesting fifteen hectares of the 35-hectare compartment 1 Yarraman in early 2025. This was originally scheduled for November 2024 to January 2025 but has been delayed due to a slight shift in the markets and temporarily reduced demand for our main plywood products.

We will replant more than 11,000 Araucaria trees soon after the harvest (weather permitting) to continue the cycle.

Harvesting, haulage, replanting and most of the sawmill processing will be undertaken by Burnett, Burpengary and Gympie-based family-owned businesses, supporting local employment and contributing to regional economic growth.

During the harvest, access to the Yarraman Forest Drive and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service managed Rogers Park will be closed for public safety.

Other local traffic will be largely unaffected with approximately 10-12 loads hauled on the Yarraman-Tarong Road each day, less than one an hour during daylight hours, however road users are encouraged to be alert for heavy vehicles.

Enquiries about the harvest can be directed to our Blackbutt office on 5484 4202.
