Mary Valley Breakneck harvest closure
Mary Valley Breakneck harvest closure
We are harvesting a section of our Araucaria plantation in the Mary Valley region, located within Imbil State Forest, near George Burtenshaw Park and the Imbil-Brooloo Rail Trail. This operation is expected to continue for approximately four months until March 2025.
The harvest area spans around 48 ha where mature Araucaria trees, planted back in 1972, have now reached the ideal stage for harvesting. These sustainably managed trees will soon be transformed into high-quality wood products, assisting local businesses and contributing to the regional economy.
Following the harvest, we will replant the area with Araucaria seedlings ensuring a continuous cycle of renewable resources and the long-term sustainability of our forests. Our commitment to sustainability practices remains a priority and we have conducted regular surveys of native flora and fauna to minimise environmental impact.
For safety reasons, compartment 11 and surrounding areas in the Breakneck logging area will be closed to all recreational users during the harvest period. We ask hikers, cyclists and all other visitors to observe these restrictions and avoid the area until the harvesting is completed. Signage and barriers will be in place to mark restricted zones clearly.
We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of local communities while we carry out this important work.
